A LITTLE TEE SISTERS STORY

So how did we even come up with this?

We’ve been searching for something we can do together for quite a while.

We needed something that was possible to invest into given our salaries, potentially not making any money for months.

Of course it also had to be something we both enjoyed and can do in a way that played to our strengths.

Fena: advertising, backend setup, research

Leeza: creative designs, social media, newsletter experience 

Leeza wrote a newsletter about side hustles a while back, and one of them was about creating a store that’s integrated with a print-on-demand service. It allows you to only pay for inventory once the purchase is made. 

And Fena mentioned how that can actually be something that we could build together. 

We looked at different ways client acquisition (ads, ugc sites, social media, newsletter, etc.). Given Fena’s ad experience and Leeza’s newsletter experience, Fena mentioned how the most ROI will come off of these resources. 

Why ads: Fena is so good, $20 can get us 100 subscribers.

Why newsletter: it’s something way more unique than just a mass email - it creates a valuable community that can’t be replaced by anything else 

So what do we run?

Our Trendy Tees brand: we are working on designs, potentially launching hats, other tops, and just making the store look better - we’re also on Etsy! We want to make as many designs as possible to figure out what people like and then optimize our store accordingly. 

The Tee Sisters Newsletter: what you’re reading every week:) Filled with 95% value & entertainment with approximately 5% of what might make us $. 

Both of these are very long-term investments and we have yet to see profit. We understand businesses take time and rely on awesome readers like you to keep them going ❤️

$5,000 to Have a Baby?

If you haven’t noticed yet, Americans aren’t having a lot of babies.

In fact, our birth rate is almost at a record low 📉

Why? Culture changes, diapers and food cost too much, abortion laws, a bunch of other expenses that come with having a baby that have only gotten higher over the years, lack of long paid paternity leave, etc. 

The government wants to change that, so they’re in the talks about offering a baby bonus 🍼💰shortly after birth - and Trump said it sounded like a good idea.

But is it actually? Does a monetary incentive actually solve the problem? Or does it just force people to have babies for the wrong reasons? And if a monetary incentive is effective, is $5,000 even enough? Would it benefit us to approach parenting & birth like some other countries? (paternity leave in other countries)

A TEE SISTER LESSON

Not All Investments Have ROI

It’s one thing to invest into something and getting a return, even if there’s no profit.

But it’s another to invest into something and it not giving you anything at all.

Money in the wind 💨 

We got a Passionfroot subscription - at $200 a month. We hoped to get some great collabs out of it. 

And many can! But it wasn’t for us. We paid extra for a collab and got less than 10 clicks from a newsletter that had thousands of subscribers that are our target audience. And 2 subscriptions? Clearly not enough for it to make sense. 

With that money, we could get way more readers through Facebook ads. So after trying it out, we didn’t get much out of it and the $200 is non refundable. 

BUT - IT’S ALL ABOUT PERSPECTIVE 

Because our ROI on this is a lesson. 

And it’s a lesson we get to pass on to you.

Unless a newsletter you want to collab with is ✨ out-of-this ✨ world amazing, you’re better off running ads and creating social media content.
